Varane has been linked with a move away in January
Raphael Varane’s relationship with Erik ten Hag has reportedly “broken down” as he continues to be linked with a move away.
The 30-year-old made 34 appearances in all competitions last season but has fallen out of favour this campaign.
Ten Hag recently gave his thoughts on the competition for places in the centre back department and suggested that the Frenchman will have to work his way back into the squad.
“He [Maguire] took his chance,” Ten Hag told beIN Sports on Thursday. “We were talking about injured players, he took his chance when Rapha [Varane] was absent.”
He added: “There is internal competition, which is normal in big clubs. When your chance comes, you must seize it and the others must fight to find their place.”
According to the Daily Mail though, Varane’s relationship with Ten Hag has been fractured every since the Dutchman made the decision to drop him for the Manchester derby on October 29.
Since then Varane has only made three substitute appearances and is reportedly “unhappy” with Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof starting ahead of him.
Varane has been tipped to make a move to Bayern Munich in January and is rumoured to be available for anywhere in-between the £20-£30m mark however his £340,000-per-week wages may prove to be a stumbling block.
