Raheem Sterling is worth more than Luis Suarez, Paul Pogba and Gareth Bale. Alexis Sanchez and James Rodriguez too.
No, that isn’t just the opinion of Sterling’s mouthy agent Aidy Ward, but also of the CIES Football Observatory, a sports research body. We don’t know how they came up with these transfer valuations, but they are certainly interesting. Leo Messi is priced at an absurd €255m while Sterling could apparently get €73m.
Whatever about Sterling’s price, the fact that Eden Hazard was deemed more valuable than Cristiano Ronaldo is a little ridiculous. The Belgian is getting better year on year but Ronaldo and Messi are still on another level to everyone else.
The Football Observatory also thinks Gareth Bale has depreciated in value significantly since signing for Real Madrid from Spurs in 2013.
Also, how do you think Sterling’s agent celebrated when he saw this survey? He probably commissioned it out of his future cut from the winger’s signing bonus.
