Watch: Raheem Sterling barely cracks a smile as he signs contract worth £200,000 a week

We're sure he was smiling on the inside

Rahem Sterling has effectively won the lottery, ten times over.

The chances of a young footballer making it in the professional game are extremely remote. In this age of globalisation, clubs are scouring the world looking for the next great player, raising the competition to incredible levels.

Footballers must overcome incredible obstacles, work as hard as possible, hope for some good luck along the way and even then it might be enough.

Even the players deemed the worst in the Premier League were likely among the best players in their age groups/regions growing up, and have achieved a considerable feat in just making it that level.

So imagine how Raheem Sterling must feel today. The England forward completed his £49 million to Manchester City from Liverpool, after a acrimonious falling out with his former club, and has signed a five year deal, worth £200,000 a week.

Not only has Sterling overcome the seemingly insurmountable odds, and made it as a professional footballer, he’s now the most expensive English player ever.

He also got his way in leaving Liverpool, and will get to play with world class talents like David Silva and Sergio Aguero next season.

He’ll also earn more in a week than some of the best players in history earned for their entire careers.

Sterling must be ecstatic, right?

Well, maybe he’s smiling on the inside.

Sterling did say his reasons for wanting to leave Liverpool had nothing to do with money, so maybe he’s not too bothered about signing this contract.

Or maybe he’s just thinking about all the stuff he can buy?
