We’ve had enough of the fit, slender, new generation of managers like Andre Villas Boas and Garry Monk.
We want more Steve Bruces, Carlo Ancelottis and, hell, if Rikishi wants to give management a bash, let him at it.
Our opinions are not echoed by the Sampdoria president who believes that Rafa Benitez is carrying too much timber to manage his side properly and would need to see a dietitian before being appointed.
With rumours abounding that current Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic is set to leave the Serie A club at the end of the season, president Massimo Ferro has listed the potential candidates but one such option, former Liverpool manager and current Napoli boss Rafael Benitez may have eaten himself out of the running.
“As far as I am concerned, he’s staying. If he were to leave, I’d know who to replace him with,” Ferrero told Radio Crc. “Paulo Sousa’s not going to be Sampdoria’s next coach, it will be [Italian comedy actor] Lino Banfi.”
“I could take Benitez, but I’d have to take him to see a dietitian first.”
“Anyway, if Mihajlovic does leave, I’ve already got a replacement. You all say he’s leaving, even if I don’t know anything about it.”
