It’s safe to say there’s no love lost between Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho.
Benitez has followed Mourinho to Inter Milan and Real Madrid, as well as joining Chelsea a few years after the Portuguese coach ended his first Stamford Bridge stint, and according to his wife has had to clean up his predecessor’s mess on multiple occasions.
While few Chelsea fans would want the Spaniard back now, there’s no question that their current manager is struggling with on and off-field matters.
And Mourinho’s misery was compounded further by Benitez in a Spanish phone interview.
Asked to comment on the last three Real Madrid manager, Los Merengues’ current coach happily praised Manuel Pellegrini and Carlo Ancelotti both as coaches and as people.
So, when asked about Mourinho, what did he say?
“A great coach… and there we will leave it.”
Ouch.
