Stephanie Roche can start banging in screamers on the other side of the Atlantic now after penning a deal with Houston Dash of the National Women’s Soccer League.
Our Puskas heroine is off to greener pastures after failing to settle with her last club, France’s ASPTT Albi.
Dublin’s Roche shot to worldwide fame after her goal for Peamount United against Wexford Youths in 2013 was nominated for the coveted Puskas award, the prize which is awarded to the scorer of the best goal of the year. (Have a look in case you’re the one person in Ireland who hasn’t seen it)
And she finished in a very respectable second place after being just beaten out by James Rodriguez of Colombia who fired home this effort in last year’s World Cup.
“I am so excited about the signing of Stephanie, we are getting a player that has great technical ability, a superb left foot, and possibly the best goalscorer to come out of Ireland since Olivia O’Toole,” Dash head coach Randy Waldrum said.
“Stephanie will bring a wealth of international experience to our team, and another great attacking option that is different from what we have already. All our Dash fans and fans of women’s soccer in general will be excited about this signing.”
