United fans won’t want to believe this.
Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly made the first step in their pursuit of Paul Pogba.
The newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions are said to be admirers of the French midfielder and, according to ESPN, have made contact with Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola over a potential move. PSG are reportedly just one of a number of clubs Raiola has spoken to.
Pogba has struggled to produce his best form on a consistent basis for Manchester United this season, mixing brilliance (against City) with more indifferent displays that have seen him dropped from the line-up.
According to reports this week, the United hierarchy will back Jose Mourinho’s planned overhaul of the squad in the summer and even sanction the sale of Pogba, so it makes sense that a report claiming that a club has made contact with Pogba’s agent has come out.
It is thought that Pogba remains very much part of Mourinho’s plans but the Portuguese coach was said to be let down by the midfielder’s performance against West Brom on Sunday.
The former Juventus star responded well, though, producing a man of the match display in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth, during which he created Romelu Lukaku’s goal.
Mourinho praised Pogba’s performance against Bournemouth on Wednesday night following criticism from former United favourite Paul Scholes.
“Top performance, top performance,” Mourinho said. “Obviously the performance against City was special, coming with two goals. But this performance was a very similar level. So top performance. He can do it.”
