Manchester United fans, take note.
We have all endured a dreadful game of football or two in our time.
During Italia ’90, I sat through 129 awful minutes of England versus Belgium in the hopes of being rewarded with a penalty shoot-out. No such luck as David Platt grabbed a late, late winner. Selfish git.
No such problems for the President of Mauritania.
Last weekend, President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, attended the Super Cup final between FC Tevragh-Zeina and ACS Ksar.
Just after the hour mark, with the game tied at 1-1, and Abdel Aziz had seen enough.
According to Gazetta World, the president ordered the game to be stopped and for the contest to be decided through a penalty shoot-out. Tevargh-Zeina won that.
Tales of the president’s impatience have spread quickly and forced a response from the Mauritanian FA.
FA chief Ahmed Ould Abderrahmane declared:
“I deny in the strongest terms the intervention of the President of the Republic. The decision was made due to organisational issues in accordance with the presidents and the coaches of the two teams.”
