Whether you support Manchester United or not, you’ll surely agree that they’ve looked a gift horse in the mouth far too often this season.
Everyone jokes about their fondness for 6th place, but they really don’t help themselves. They continue to trip up and leave their supporters exasperated.
Against Everton at home on Tuesday night, they once again had a golden opportunity to seize the initiative in the race for a Champions League spot, but once again they faltered. It was the same at Old Trafford against West Brom on Saturday, as it has been on numerous occasions this season.
Of course an injury time equaliser from the penalty spot by Zlatan Ibrahimovic to cancel out Phil Jagielka’s first half goal salvaged a welcome point for the Red Devils, but it won’t help them much in their pursuit of Manchester City and Liverpool. It also allows Arsenal to go ahead of them on goal difference with their game in hand.
Jose Mourinho’s men seem unable to trouble the top four, instead prolonging their quite useless unbeaten run of largely ineffective draws.
Not that you’d know from the Premier League’s desperate attempts to make things seem more competitive than they are. There’s putting a positive spin on things and there’s this…
Quickly realising that it was a preposterous summation of the situation – largely by the reception it received – the official Premier League account hurriedly deleted the tweet, but not before people noticed and mocked them for their awful misreading of the situation.
That old saying about everything on the internet being permanent was perhaps never truer…
Na, it really doesn't
