Defensive reinforcements at the club are in short suppl, so it might interest United that a previous club captain could soon be available for free.
Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic could be about to have his contract cancelled at Inter Milan, for whom he signed in the summer of 2014.
The centre-half has not enjoyed a productive spell in Serie A and has failed to feature in any games this season due to injury.
Vidic is expected to return to fitness in early 2016 but according to Corriere dello Sport the defender will be let go from his contract early if a suitable offer comes in.
Considering Manchester United are set to line out with Daley Blind and Paddy McNair as their centre halves for the weekend, they could do worse than the club legend making a temporary move for the player.
Also believed to be interested are Aston Villa and Everton who could make a move in January.
