Premier League club line-up Ryan Giggs as manager to replace “dead man walking”

Ryan Giggs would want to choose his first managerial role carefully.

Over half of those who get sacked from their first position don’t get another job, and the chances of being offered another manager’s job becomes even more remote if you lose your second job in management, as Roy Keane can attest.

If Giggs ever wants to be Manchester United manager, and we can safely say he, and a lot of United fans, would like to see it happen, then he’ll need to tread carefully.

As he said himself on Sky Sport’s Friday Night Football, the Premier League is a “war of nutrition.”

Giggs knows how high the stakes are for managers, after seeing both David Moyes and Louis van Gaal struggle following Alex Ferguson’s retirement. But the 42-year-old has made it clear he wants to try his hand at management, and he looks set to be handed a route into the Premier League.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Swansea City are lining-up the Welshman to replace the under-pressure Francesco Guidolin. The Italian is said to be a “dead man walking” at the Liberty Stadium.

According to the report:

“Huw Jenkins, the Swansea chairman, is understood to have considered approaching Giggs over the prospect of succeeding Guidolin before the move was blocked by the club’s new American owners.

“Jenkins was hoping to meet Giggs, the former Manchester United attacker and assistant manager, ahead of the EFL Cup tie against Manchester City, which Swansea went on to lose 2-1, but postponed the plans after talks with majority shareholders Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien.

“Kaplan and Levien, who completed their £100million takeover in June, are keen for stability and are reluctant to make a change so early in the season.

“But Giggs has been a Jenkins target for some time and while it is unclear whether the 42-year-old would accept the post, Guidolin appears increasingly likely to be sacked before the next international break in October.”

Swansea have won only one game this season, and the squad are reportedly unimpressed with Guidolin.

The 60-year-old was appointed on a permanent deal at the end of last season, after originally arriving on an interim basis in January following the sacking of Garry Monk.
