Leicester City’s impending Premier League title is a just reward for all the fans who have stood by their team through thick and thin down the years.
It’s just seven years since the Foxes were scrapping away in the third tier of English football, but now know only a spectacular collapse will deny them league glory in England’s highest division for the first time ever.
And while their unlikely run to the title has been quite lucrative for fans who backed their side – as well as Claudio Ranieri himself – spare a thought for John Micklethwait.
The 53-year-old Leicester fan has dropped £20 to back the Foxes for league glory at the beginning of every season since 1996, but forgot to this past summer after moving to New York.

By now, you probably know that Leicester were ranked as 5000/1 outsiders for the title after just escaping relegation last season and losing their manager during a difficult summer.
But the likes of Jamie Vardy and PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez have fired the Foxes to within an inch of Premier League glory, as they now find themselves seven points clear at the top with just three games remaining.
Had Micklethwait – who is the editor-in-chief of American media company Bloomberg – remembered to put on his customary bet, he would be preparing for a £100,000 payout.
We guess he’ll have to settle for a league title instead.
