Paul Pogba’s brothers looked unimpressed with his free-kick against Argentina

Not impressed at all

Simon Lloyd

France showed glimpses that they were finally stirring to life in this World Cup during the first half of their last-16 clash with Argentina

Didier Deschamps’ men were hugely unconvincing during the group stage, despite managing to top their group ahead of Denmark.

Argentina were even worse during the group stages. Drawing their opener with Iceland and hammered 3-0 in their next game against Croatia, they needed a late winner from Marcos Rojo in their final game with Nigeria to scrape through to the knockout stages.

Rojo went from hero to zero in the early stages against Les Bleus, embarrassed by Kylian Mbappe he conceded a penalty which was tucked away by Antoine Griezmann.

Mbappe caused the South Americans more problems minutes later when he was picked out by a Paul Pogba pass, only to be brought down on the edge of the penalty area.

Both Griezmann and Pogba stood over the resulting free-kick, before the Manchester United midfielder eventually stepped up to take it, sending a powerful shot comfortably over the Argentina goal.

Cameras immediately cut to the crowd, more specifically the reaction of Pogba’s two older twin brothers – Florentin and Matthias. It was instantly clear neither approved of their younger sibling’s attempt at goal…

Plenty were quick to spot the reaction of the pair – both of which played international football for Guinea, their country of birth.

France kept their lead until shortly before half-time when Angel Di Maria’s long range effort levelled things for Argentina.
