Piers Morgan slams Man United for ‘the worst decision in football history’

Piers will not let this go

Piers Morgan has continued his criticism of Manchester United by labelling the decision to get rid of Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the worst in football history.

Ronaldo left United by mutual consent in November following an explosive TV interview with Morgan in which he called out Erik ten Hag and the day-to-day running of the football club.

Despite hoping to secure a move to another European club the 38-year-old instead settled for a move to Saudi Arabia to join Al Nassr after an underwhelming World Cup campaign with Portugal.

The forward scored twice in his new side’s 5-0 win against Al Adalah on Tuesday to keep Al Nassr in the title race and has scored 11 goals in nine games this season.

Morgan has been Ronaldo’s biggest fan for a number of years – and even tried to tempt him to join Arsenal during their first sit down interview – and as is customary when the forward has played well, tweeted to congratulate him and call out United.

He said: “Two more goals for @Cristiano so far tonight, including this superb one which once again suggests Ten Hag’s decision to dump him for Wout Weghorst was one of the worst in football history.”

Following the departure of Ronaldo, Ten Hag opted to sign Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley with options to bring in a world class striker limited until the summer at least.

Weghorst has failed to make a major impact, scoring only two goals from 19 games and has split the fanbase as some applaud him for his work ethic while others believe he is not at the required level to play for the club.
