PICS: Rangers supporters accused of ripping apart Celtic Park restrooms

Wreckage

Darragh Murphy

We can all appreciate the passion of an intense rivalry but nobody wants to see that passion cross over into violence or damage to property.

The latter seems to have taken place at Celtic Park on Saturday when, at some stage of Celtic’s 5-1 victory over Rangers, a toilet block was destroyed.

BBC News report that Police Scotland were made aware of the damage but that the club was dealing with the matter internally.

The pictures, all of which came via @FootyAwayDays_, show broken toilet tiles, shattered sinks and significant vandalism done to the ceilings of a restroom.

Ch Supt Brian McInulty said of reports of violence in the wake of the game: “The vast majority of supporters who attended the match behaved in a responsible manner and enjoyed the event.

“A small number of supporters from both sides, who were clearly intent on causing disorder were intercepted by officers in the Gallowgate area, and those officers ensured that no disorder took place.

“There have been no reports of assaults and the situation is under control.”
