Silvio’s getting a new playground
We have to admit that we have a massive massive soft spot for the San Siro, or the ‘Cathedral of Italian football’ in Milan.
It’s an amazing venue and on days of the Milan derby is a scene of colour and noise from the various ‘ultras’ behind the goals.
However days when the 80,000 capacity is filled are becoming less and less frequent, and AC Milan have now revealed plans to build a new smaller stadium in the Portello area of the city.
The stadium will have a much smaller capacity of just under 50,000 and it will not be shared with their rivals Inter. It looks amazing and the design is partially based on Bayern Munich’s former Olympic Stadium, as well as the Juventus Stadium in Turin.
The Rossoneri have called the San Siro their home since 1926, and began sharing with Inter from 1947 while the stadium will host the Champions League final in next year.
It’s set to cost €300 million and is due to be ready by the 2018-19 season. The club made the announcement on their Twitter page this morning:

What happens the fabled San Siro is a mystery as Inter are also understood to be looking at building their own stadium in the near future.
