You can’t let this sort of behaviour slip… I mean slide!
Check out this banner that United fans were forced to take down during Sunday’s 3-0 win against bitter rivals Liverpool. It really encapsulates every go-to joke rival fans like to wheel out against the club. You’ve got Gerrard’s slip and a reference to their lack of Premier League titles. All that it’s missing is a hackneyed Scouse stereotype. Add that and you’ve got the ultimate anti-Liverpool banner.
Made an appearance today. Apparently stewards slipped in and saved Gerrard's blushes. pic.twitter.com/BL5ogwLtW8

The banner was a call back to a similar one unfurled by Liverpool fans at Anfield in 1994. It read “Au revoir Cantona and Man United. Come back when you’ve won 18.” This was of course in referring to to the fact that at the time, United had won nine championships in their history in comparison to Liverpool’s 18. Since then, United have reached 20 league titles while Liverpool remain on 18.
The reason why the fans were not allowed to display the banner wasn’t for fear that it would incite some sort of riot. It was simply because it was so large, it contravened the stadium’s safety regulations.
