Manchester United fans, be warned, apparently it’s more appropriate to refer to your latest signing as “Memphis” rather than by his surname.
The young Dutchman eased the worries of hopeful Red Devils supporters after it was revealed today that the winger was to join the Old Trafford outfit at the end of the Eredivisie season.
But don’t jump the gun by getting “Depay” on the back of your jersey just yet because it looks like the 21-year-ol will continue to wear “Memphis” on his back and the reasons have been detailed in a biography on his new manager Louis van Gaal.
Dutch writer Hugo Borst’s book on the Manchester United boss has an entire chapter dedicated to the relationship between Depay and van Gaal, who have worked together with the Netherlands national team.

It seems a bit silly, having read that, that any of us thought that Depay’s club future lay anywhere other than under the watchful gaze of van Gaal but the revelation about his name is interesting to say the least.
