How would you react to getting a letter like this?
He made the people happy, or so the statue outside Anfield says about the late great Bill Shankly, but there is something inescapably sad about his resignation letter to Liverpool FC.
The Scot took over the club in 1959 and up to his resignation in 1974 at the age of just 60 he led the Reds to several domestic cup and league titles.
He shocked the football world when he decided in 1974 to quit his role at Anfield and slip into retirement, and the simple four lines that he did so wit  have been revealed today by none other than our own John Aldridge
A new hotel has opened in Liverpool called after the legendary manager and one of the key exhibits is the four lines that Shankly submitted to the club to announce his decision to quit and look forward to collecting his pension
