The silly season is in full flow, and nowhere has it been sillier than at Old Trafford
Liverpool may be getting the deals done, but Manchester United remain the kings of the transfer window.
The window hasn’t even officially opened yet, but Louis van Gaal’s ongoing revamp of his Red Devils’ side means the club have been linked with an entire squad’s worth of new talent which would total well in excess of £300million if even half these deals were to come to fruition.
The Wall Street Journal have put collated the number of times a player has been linked with United in the headline-happy English media and found Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger leads the way with 64 mentions in the past month.
Closely behind are a pair of La Liga defenders, Sergio Ramos and Nicolas Otamendi, with the former now the subject of a reported £35million offer.
The list also includes one player definitely already ruled out of a move to Old Trafford, with Roberto Firmino joining Liverpool yesterday.
