Pic: Political party in hot water for using Lionel Messi’s image to try to win election

What did they honestly expect?

Lionel Messi does not like it when Guatemalan political parties use his likeness without asking permission.

The Partido Patriota of Guatemala found this out the hard way.

Since the party’s colour is orange, they put up a photo of Messi in Barca’s orange kit on their posters where he appears to be saying,”The best team is orange. On the 6th of September vote for the [Partido] Patriota of Jacaltenango, the best team,”

The party never got permission off the Argentinian star to use his image on their posters, which meant that the man himself was, unsurprisingly, ticked off.

Messi along with his company explained in a press release that “nobody has authorised the use of the image of the player, for this political party or any other.” and that “they hold the right to take the legal action open to them against any person or institution that use the image of the Barcelona player.”

The party have distanced themselves from the posters, claiming they’re not part of their official campaign but were done by a local group. They have also offered to punish those responsible for the banners.
