PSG upset the odds to dump Chelsea out of Europe.
The Parisians came from behind twice to take revenge on the Blues for sending them crashing out of last year’s tournament.
PSG showed remarkable character to play for the last hour of normal time plus the entirety of extra time with only 10 men. Their talismanic forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic was given his marching orders at the half hour mark after an apparent foul on Oscar, which after looking at the replays seemed innocuous enough.
With the sides deadlocked at one apiece after 90 minutes, the game headed to extra time. All hope seemed lost for PSG when Chelsea were awarded a penalty after a handball from club captain Thiago Silva. Hazard coolly converted the spot-kick.
However, Silva redeemed himself by smashing a towering header into Courtois’ net to see his side through to the quarter finals.
