This is how it is supposed to be done

They say that the end to sporting careers is rarely chosen by the sports person. Often injury or time overtakes them, robbing the athlete of the perfectly orchestrated exit.

That’s why we must tip our hats to former Wolves, Reading and US international goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann, who was not only able to decide when to quit, but he did it from a treehouse with some Jim Beam in his hand.

The 42-year-old retired before, in 2012, before coming back to play for the Seattle Sounders but this looks like the final say on his career. He certainly won’t surpass this method of departure.

Officially retired again for 4 th time. Hanging in a #treehouse

Maybe now Marcus will have the time to mediate the brewing row between two other US stoppers, Brad Friedel and Tim Howard.
