Matt Busby was a Liverpool captain you know
It may not be a traditional local derby in the strictest sense, but when the two most successful club sides in English football meet, prepare for more than the usual ‘banter’ between fans. Liverpool and Manchester United supporters have a mutual distrust, and no matter how many times managers appeal for respect, it just isn’t going to happen.
Anfield is the setting for the latest clash this Sunday in a massive game to see who will take control of the final Champions league spot with just a handful of games to go in the season. And a Manchester supporters group think they have the prefect plan to rile the Scousers at the weekend.
They’ve made up a special banner celebrating the fact that two of their legendary mangers have been knighted by none other than the Queen herself,Matt Busby and Alex Ferguson. However Liverpool’s two iconic figures of Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley are known just by their first names, and haven’t received any royal recognition.
We won’t get into the whole argument that people in the city of Liverpool see themselves as ‘Scouse first and England second’ so they may not be that bothered by the whole banner. Still,it’s a bit cheeky isn’t it. Especially considering Matt Busby was a Liverpool player and played over 100 times for the Reds.
