PIC: Is Liverpool’s injured outfield XI better than the team that started against Tottenham?

It's hard to say

Kevin McGillicuddy

We’ve done a little experiment.

Liverpool’s starting XI today for the clash with Tottenham is hardly the team that Jurgen Klopp would have liked to begin his tenure as Anfield boss with.

Daniel Sturridge didn’t even make the match day squad through injury, while the German knew he would be without Christian Benteke, Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez anyway due to long-term injury.

Liverpool are missing almost a dozen players due to injury which means various youngsters such as Jordan Ibe and Jerome Sinclair take their place in the match day squad.

And in light of that so we’ve decided to compare the team that started with the 10 injured players at the club who could and should be featuring today.

The team that lined out did so in a 4-2-3-1 formation for the early kick-off.

It’s a lot of millions worth of talent there with a serious amount of internationals involved too.

And then we get to the injured XI where we’ve included sub goalkeper Adam Bogdan, who’s not injured, just for illustration purposes.

The back four might be a bit shaky – we’re looking at you Dejan –  and midfield might be less than spectacular, but it’s up front that you can see a huge gulf in class.

Klopp will have some of those players back in a few weeks time and for Liverpool fans you’d have to think the sooner the better.
