The ghosts of Wim Kieft are still spinning around here
When they built the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, they did so right beside the Parkstadion, the venue for Ireland’s cruching 1-0 defeat to Holland in 1988.
A freakish Wim Kieft goal sent Ireland home from Euro ’88 and while visiting the city to commentate on Schalke v Real Madrid tomorrow night, the RTE man took a few snaps of what is left of the old stadium.
