A savage reminder of one of the worst injuries in football history
It was the moment that made him a household name but it was the end of David Busst’s career.
The Coventry City defender was in action against Manchester United in 1996 when, just two minutes into the game, he got his right leg caught between the tackles of Denis Irwin and Brian McClair, resulting in devastating compound fractures to both tibia and fibula.
United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel was alleged to have vomited on the pitch while players on both teams bore the haunted gazes that always heralded a serious injury as groundsmen cleaned the blood from the pitch during a nine-minute halt in play.

The injury required 26 operations and Busst also contracted MRSA while recovering that ultimately prevented him from returning to the game.
Busst, now 48, was on Talksport radio this weekend and presenter Andy Goldstein tweeted a picture of his leg today.
