PIC: Classy James McClean visits Derry girl to deliver on his heartfelt promise

What a guy

James McClean has never forgotten where he comes from.

He’s a Derry man through and through but, more than that, he’s a kind soul.

For years now, the Republic of Ireland winger has been helping out his city folk, giving up his time and money for the less fortunate just so he can help out in any way.

Just seven months ago, he paid for a hand cycle bike for a young girl with Spina Bifida.

At Christmas, he made a sizable donation to the House in the Wells and the Foyle Valley House so he could help Derry’s homeless problem over the festive period.

He dug out his old GAA club, Seán Dolan’s, before that by sponsoring the club’s jerseys.

Last week, he was described as an “absolute gentleman” when it emerged that he had given £1,000 to a Derry family who are heading to Florida so their four-year-old can receive treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma.

To go one better, the West Brom player paid the family and little Darragh a visit during his weekend off from international duty and he put smiles on plenty of faces. Again.

McClean presented the young Derry girl with a signed Ireland jersey and his money will go towards the family who have to stay in Florida for at least five weeks whilst Darragh receives treatment.

But it’s yet another classy act from the salt of the earth Derry man. Fair play.
