Phil Neville’s first tweet in Spanish went very wrong

Unless that's what he actually meant...

Learning a new language isn’t easy.

For example, all those years you spent learning Irish in school.

From primary school through secondary, daily classes, summer and Christmas exams, the Junior and Leaving Cert and an Irish oral exam. 13 or 14 years and of learning the nation’s native tongue, and you all you remember is: ‘”An bhfuil cead agam dul go dti an leithreas.”

Or maybe that’s just me.

But still, the point remains, it’s difficult to learn a new language, and Twitter certainly isn’t the place to practice.

New Valencia assistant coach Phil Neville is currently learning Spanish, having just moved to the Iberian country, and took to social media to show off what he’s learned thus far.

The former Manchester United defender tweeted earlier today: “Morning – early morning run on the beach to start the day.” He also tweeted what he thought was the same message in Spanish, however, it went very wrong.

Phil painted a completely different picture for his new Spanish friends.

Oh dear. Apparently “corrida” has a rude double meaning, and one of those meanings isn’t something one should do on the beach.

We can only hope Phil got the Spanish, and not the English, tweet wrong. But good luck Phil, don’t let this very minor mishap stop you from tweeting in Spanish.

You’ll get there eventually, and in the meantime, keep your followers entertained.
