Jose Mourinho, the benevolent one.
Arsene Wenger is in a bind. He needs a versatile defender and Premier League experience would be extremely handy.
Jose Mourinho is in a bind. He has too many defenders.
Wenger is being quoted £46m for Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi and £25m for West Brom’s Jonny Evans. He can have Jones for a fraction of thoses fees.
Mourinho must have turned over a new leaf…
Despite featuring for United over the pre-season, Jones has yet to feature in either of their opening Premier League games. He was injured for a healthy chunk of last season but struggled to command a starting spot even when fit.
The Guardian are reporting that United have rejected ‘several inquiries this summer’ for Jones. Arsenal and Stoke City are said to be the latest suitors. Indeed, it is believed that United’s unwillingness to part with Jones forced them to look at Evans as centre-back cover.
Maybe Mourinho has not turned over a new leaf.
While Arsenal are working away behind the scenes, Stoke have openly expressed an interest.
Assistant coach Mark Bowen told The Stoke Sentinel, “Fingers crossed, something might happen.”
Depending on Mourinho’s opinion on Jones, having worked with him these past two months, he could keep him, let him join Stoke or help or hinder his old buddy Arsene.
