What a performance from Phil Foden!
We all knew Arsenal probably needed some luck to be crowned Premier League champions today.
And not just any luck, but the kind of luck that sees a West Ham team with nothing to play for travel to Manchester and prevent Pep Guaradiola’s team of superstars from snatching a fourth consecutive Premier League title. Yeah, that kind of luck.
Nevertheless, some Arsenal fans showed up to the Emirates with radios in hand, primed for vintage final-day drama, excited for a potential upset, dreaming of the best day in the history of their stadium.
Because what is sport for if it’s not for being optimistic?
This wasn’t a Premier League final day that ever looked destined to produce some ‘Premier League Years’-type footballing heritage, but Gunners fans – power to them – were willing to manifest it.
Sadly for those fans – and fans of sporting surprises – 76 seconds was all it took for their optimism to be destroyed.
And it wouldn’t take a gambler to bet their radios faced the same fate.
Premier League Player of the Season Phil Foden was the man to silence the dreamers in just the second minute, and sixteen minutes later, he made sure they stayed asleep.
With twenty minutes on the clock, England’s starboy had all but wrapped up the title for his team with a brilliant brace; his majesty carving the first letters of ‘Manchester City’ onto the trophy.
You would expect the Citizens to see the league out from here…
