Paul Scholes could be on the brink of his first foray into management

What a place to start, if this comes to pass

The Manchester United midfielder always seemed a candidate for the dugout

He dabbled in the world of coaching with the youth teams at Manchester United and now it seems that Paul Scholes may be about to take his first management role.

The Mail are reporting that Oldham, who are on the brink of losing their manager to rivals Barnsley today, are mulling over offering the 40-year-old a shot at the management game.

Current Oldham boss Lee Johnson is expected to be unveiled at Oakwell today and the Mail say that Scholes is being ‘considered’ to replace him.

Scholes is a long-time Oldham fan and is friendly with chairman Simon Corney.

Of course, Scholes may be happy with his work as a pundit and columnist but the chance to take over at the club he supported as a youngster would surely be tempting.
