Paul Pogba to miss Manchester United’s FA Cup tie at Huddersfield

Ethan Hamilton takes his place

There have been reports of friction between him and the manager

Paul Pogba will not play for Manchester United today in their FA Cup tie against Huddersfield Town. He is reported to be ill, so will sit the game out while Ethan Hamilton replaces him in the squad.

Pogba has not been playing to the best of his ability in recent weeks. He was substituted against Tottenham, dropped for United’s league fixture against Huddersfield and substituted again during United’s defeat to Newcastle last weekend.

There have been reports of a dispute between Pogba and José Mourinho over where he should play, and to what extent United should build around him as opposed to him adapting to Mourinho’s preferred system.

It’s safe to say there are problems at United at the moment, despite them still sitting second in the league, and a lot of them revolve around Pogba and how he fits into the team.

That is not to say that he isn’t genuinely unwell today. Even elite footballers are not immune from the common cold.

His replacement, Ethan Hamilton, is a 19-year-old Scottish midfielder who prefers to play on the left side of central midfield, although he can play as a wing-back. This is his chance to break into the first team squad, much like Scott McTominay has over the past year.
