£89m?
Christ, what would you have to spend for Wes Hoolahan? There’s not enough money in the world.
The familiar pattern of this season has been Paul Pogba playing a delightful pass to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic missing. Only one man gets the stick for it though and it’s not the player who cost nothing.
The more games that go by without the world’s most expensive footballer adding an extra number to his stats columns, the more incredulous his transfer becomes and the more critics and sensationalised headlines that appear over a midfielder who’s actually not doing badly at all.
His biggest fault was being bought for £89m.
Anyway, whilst Zlatan missed one late in the first period that would’ve granted Pogba another assist, he at least took one chance and it was right out of the Wes Hoolahan – Robbie Brady playbook.

And all the two of them needed was a little bit of Wes inspiration – that’s all anybody needs for anything ever.
Pogba takes the ball wide and checks inside.
Just like Wes did back in June.
He cuts onto his preferred foot.
Just like Wes did.
Pogba lifts one deliciously up and down, over the top for the run.
Almost as delicious as what Wes did.
All that was left was for Zlatan to nod it on past the ‘keeper.
Just like Brady did.
All it took was to channel the Wes Hoolahan within us all.
Maybe Pogba will one day be considered in the same bracket.
