Parma ham actually costs more than Serie A club Parma

The club is in crisis

You could buy nearly two and a half Parma’s for the same price as a packet of parma ham

It’s hard to believe a club that once boasted the likes of Faustino Asprilla, Gianfranco Zola, Gianluigi Buffon and Hernan Crespo to name but a few, has just been pawned off for the bargain price of €1.

The club are currently dead last in the Serie A and are nine points adrift of safety. Despite 17 games left in to play in the season, relegation is looking imminent for the club, and as a result, their owners have been forced to cut their losses.

Italian businessman Giampietro Manenti has purchased club for just €1, which was the same price paid by the Russian-Cypriot conglomerate that bought the club  back in December. He explained that he aims to rescue the club from the throes of a financial crisis.

We’re going to pay everything. It’s been a turbulent time for the players, but I’ve come away satisfied with our meeting. They were not asking for their wages, they were asking for the situation to be saved.

It will be our duty to respect the deadlines, both of taxes and salaries. We are going to try to get other Italian and foreign companies on board. We’re really motivated to get going and we’re close to a very important deadline for the club.

Parma’s first-team players and staff haven’t received any wages since July. The new owner will surely be looking to rectify this sooner rather than later.
