With all the drama of deadline day, it’s understandable that our attention was focused on the Premier League.
But just across the channel an absolutely sensational bid could have rocked the football world to its core.
Paris Saint-Germain are believed to have launched a €150m (£110m) bid for Cristiano Ronaldo that would have absolutely obliterated the world transfer record.
According to Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte, Real Madrid had no interest in accepting the bid, which would have doubled PSG’s current transfer record, paid for Edinson Cavani in 2013.
The publication also revealed that PSG was the only club to bid for the player, who may be allowed to leave the Spanish capital next summer.
