Palermo’s offered wage to Mario Balotelli shows just how far his stock has plummeted

Pay cut

Darragh Murphy

Mario Balotelli will have to take a hell of a pay cut in order to revive his sputtering career.

The Liverpool “striker” is obviously unwanted by Jurgen Klopp, that much is clear, but no clubs are willing to match his insane wages and offer him an exit route.

The epitome of a backfired gamble, Balotelli is dead wood at Anfield and has found himself in no man’s land since his loan move to AC Milan came to an end.

But the Italian may find himself back in his native country if he takes Palermo up on their pretty paltry offer.

According to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, the Serie A outfit are offering Balotelli just £11,000 a week which would come as a considerable downgrade on his current earnings.

Balotelli is reportedly on a contract worth £5 million a year on Merseyside, which is an awful lot for his role as a bench decoration, but the offer shows just how far his reputation has dropped since his days as one of the most promising young forwards in Europe.

Palermo have also seemingly given Balotelli a deadline of 24 hours to arrive at his decision. They’re not messing about.
