O’Neill wants Keane and Fergie to make up but they have a long, long, long way to go

Is there any going back from some of these brilliant jibes?

Why can’t we all just get along?

Republic of Ireland boss, Martin O’Neill, believes that Roy Keane and Alex Ferguson know deep down that they were brilliant for each other.  And that they should make their peace with one another publicly.

The two Manchester United legends have fallen out over – well, loads of things really – and there looked to be no going back for the two of them as the pair traded some hefty blows in public (we scored a unanimous points victory for Keano though).

But O’Neill thinks it would be nice if they recognised how great the were for each other.

“Roy Keane was a vital cog in [the success at United],” he said.  “If you were to ask Alex Ferguson, I’d bet one of the top three or four signings he made would be Roy Keane.  And he signed some very fine players.  That’s how important Roy was to him.  The two of them were brilliant for each other over a number of years and I think that’s something that shouldn’t be forgotten over time.

“People can have their arguments and who am I to step into anyone else’s argument, who am I to intervene? I’m not [doing] that, but what I maintain is that the two of them were magnificent for each other and from an outsider’s viewpoint it’d be nice if at some stage or another they recognise that publicly. I know that deep down they know they were superb for each other.”

Really, really, really, really, really deep down.

Speaking at the launch of his second book though, Roy said he didn’t know if he could forgive his old boss.

Alex Ferguson wrecked up some old graves when he referred to Keane’s infamous MUTV interview at his own book launch.

And that sparked Keane to question the Scotsman’s loyalty… again.

O’Neill’s idea of getting them to make up might not go down so well considering Keane said he would do this if he ever ran into Fergie again.

At this stage, the Irish man has him on the ropes and the knockout blow is coming.  Hilarious.
