One of the first questions for Bastian Schweinsteiger in Chicago was downright ridiculous

America just ain't there yet

In recent years, we’ve seen plenty of concerted efforts to boost the popularity of football (or soccer as they insist on calling it) in the United States.

The arrivals of David Beckham, Robbie Keane and Andrea Pirlo were expected to legitimise Major League Soccer and bring in more viewers, which it has, to be fair.

But it seems like our cousins across the Atlantic are still coming terms with the ins and outs of the beautiful game.

Former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is the latest superstar to move Stateside as he officially joined the Chicago Fire this week.

But his first press conference in the good ol’ U.S of A proved that he may need to dumb down his football talk when speaking to certain members of the media.

The head of Bayern Munich’s social media in America, Cristian Nyari, was in attendance for Wednesday afternoon’s press conference, at which Schweini was unveiled, and he took note of some of the more… stupid questions that were aimed at the 2014 World Cup winner.

Yep. That was actually asked by an actual reporter.

Surely it could only get better.

Think again!
