We haven’t seen a dog ruin someone’s afternoon like this since The Itchy and Scratchy Show introduced a new character with a skateboard and backwards cap.
But this incident in the Chilean Segunda División might well be a new contender for the most inconvenient canine intervention, at least in a sporting context.
The Chilean season is still young, but Deportes Melipilla were going into their clash with Trasandino knowing that only one of the two teams could keep their 100 percent record intact.
Melipilla were on the attack and looked certain to score (well, the ball might have been drifting wide, but let’s not get bogged down in the details), only for a stray pup to casually nod the ball away, like a defender accustomed to guarding the post at set pieces.

Thankfully for Melipilla, the dog-like reflexes (if that wasn’t a saying before, it is now) were not enough to deny the visitors victory. They ran out 3-0 winners, and moved to the top of the division as a result.
Trasandino goalkeeper Fabián Cerda was none too happy with the actions of the animal, according to Yahoo. And, to be honest, would you be happy about being shown up by a dog?
“I left it on purpose. Now people say the dog saved the goal. The dog this. The dog that. It bothers me,” Cerda reportedly said, in comments about which we have our suspicions.
