Norwich City have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old midfielder William Hondermarck from Drogheda United.

Hondermarck came through the underage sides at Shelbourne before moving to Drogheda last year where he played for the club’s U19 side before eventually progressing through to the seniors in the first division.

Norwich confirmed the signing on Tuesday and said that Hondermarck would go straight into the FA Youth Cup squad which travels to Preston on Tuesday night, having featured on the bench for the Under-23s in their game with Leicester City on Monday.

The French national, who moved to Ireland when he was just five-years-old, said that he knew of Ireland underage international Adam Idah before he joined the club and that he’s enjoying his experience thus far with the Canaries.

“It feels like a dream. To have the chance to be involved in an environment like this is amazing for me.

“I’ve had a really successful trial period here. It’s been hard work with the quality and double sessions, but I’ve enjoyed every minute so far.

“I knew of Adam Idah before I joined because he has played a lot for Ireland in the past. The group here is so friendly and they’ve given me a really warm welcome.”
