No prizes for guessing who won Manchester United’s players’ player of the season

Number one

Ben Kiely

The Manchester United players have spoken, and their number one player of the season is, well, their number one.

After his phenomenal season in goals for the club’s less than spectacular campaign, David de Gea has picked up Manchester United’s players’ player of the year award.

Unlike Raheem, de Gea received a warm reception accepting the accolade, despite there being serious doubts over his future at Old Trafford.

If you thought that the Spaniard would not use the occasion to reveal whether he will leave for Real Madrid or not, then you’re exactly right. He gave absolutely nothing away.

“I want to say thank you to my teammates, they have been fantastic this season, we have a great dressing room and I would like to say thank you very much.”

We’ll have to wait to see his transfer saga pans out the old fashioned way so.

De Gea also picked up the prestigious Matt Busby player of the Year on the night. Louis van Gaal presented him the award and paid the Spaniard some massive compliments about his form this season.

“I am very proud of you because I have seen him in the first matches and I have seen him in the second part of the season. I think you have developed yourself more than the other players of Manchester United. That is why I agree with the voice of the fans. Congratulations, you have deserved it.”
