Now that Xavi’s gone off to Qatar, there’s a new captain of Barcelona.

The Catalans have a unique system in which the players themselves choose who they want to wear the captain’s armband, as opposed to the manager. The votes are in and Andres Iniesta has been selected as the new captain of the club.

Iniesta is no stranger to leading the side having worn the armband for much of last season, including his side’s Champions League and Copa del Rey final triumphs.

Barca also elected three vice-captains to assist Iniesta. Lionel Messi is first in line to the throne followed by Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano respectively.
