Wayne Rooney lets us know the identity of Manchester United’s fastest (and slowest) players

Rashford's not even in the top three!

Football fans are always intrigued with how fast footballers are.

Just look at the fuss caused by those reports that Arsenal’s speedy right back Hector Bellerin was quicker than Usain Bolt, for example.

So when Wayne Rooney decided to do a Q&A session on his Facebook page earlier, it was no surprise that he was pressed on who Manchester United’s fastest (and slowest) players are.

Surprisingly, young Marcus Rashford – who showed during his first few months with the United first team that he’s certainly no slouch – doesn’t even make the top three.

Instead, Rooney, having initially joked that he was the fastest, tells teammate (and interviewer) Ashley Young that Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw and number nine 11 Anthony Martial are the speediest players with the club.

And the slowest? After a lengthy pause, Rooney reveals that Daley Blind is the slowest player at the club – much to the amusement of Young.

“Sorry Daley. He makes up for it with his mind. He’s got a quick brain,” Rooney adds.

Rooney is expected to make his first appearance of preseason at some stage of United’s meeting with Manchester City in Beijing on Monday. Like many of those players that featured at Euro 2016, Rooney is returning to preseason later than some of his teammates.
