Neymar sent off for dive on his first PSG game back after World Cup

Completely lost the head.

Neymar Jr. was shown two yellow cards in the space of 90 seconds and sent off in his first Paris Saint Germain match since his return from the World Cup.

With PSG tied 1-1 against Strasbourg in their Ligue 1 clash, the Brazilian was cautioned for flicking out an arm at an opponent. Just over a minute later, he dived in the Strasbourg box, in an attempt to win a penalty, and he was duly red-carded:

“Neymar was in tears after Brazil were eliminated from the World Cup,” noted BT Sport commentator Jonathan Pearce. “Now he has been sent off. Sent off for the fifth time in his PSG career.”

This was Neymar’s first game since Brazil were eliminated by Croatia in the World Cup quarter finals.

Marquinhos, who missed a penalty in that shoot-out defeat, scored the PSG opener but then put the ball into his own net to level the scores.

France striker Kylian Mbappé was back for PSG but Lionel Messi, who won the World Cup with Argentina, is not expected back until their next game, against Lens.

Mbappé was the PSG hero as he converted a 96th minute penalty to clinch a 2-1 win.
