The arrival of Steve McClaren was meant to herald a new, John Carver-less dawn at St James’ Park, but things haven’t gone to plan.
Newcastle are without a Premier League win under the former England manager, and are now out of the League Cup after losing at home to Championship Sheffield Wednesday, who were themselves resting a number of first-choice players.
Many Magpies fans feel the manager is running out of time to turn things around, and they took to social media to voice their dissatisfaction.
He got sacked by a club whose greatest ever player is, iirc, Darren Moore. What was anyone expecting?

I never thought I'd say this but John Carver > Steve McClaren

I know it's still early days but McClaren doesn't have any plan b.. Also think Graham Carr deserves a massive share of the blame ! #nufc

Admittedly it might not just be the man in charge who’s the problem.

But maybe we should have always known…
Three of Steve McClaren's managerial jobs have contained fewer than 25 matches. At this rate, Newcastle will be number four.
