Newcastle are looking to strengthen even further
Newcastle United are exploring the possibility of signing Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Hakim Ziyech this month.
The Telegraph have reported that Newcastle are eyeing up the Chelsea trio as they continue to push towards qualifying for the Champions League next season.
Graham Potter’s side are ravaged with injuries at the moment and the Chelsea boss would be reluctant to lose Gallagher and Loftus-Cheek but may be willing to allow Ziyech to move on.
Chelsea must also cut two non-homegrown players from their Champions League squad ahead of next month’s round of 16 fixture against Borussia Dortmund following the arrivals of Mykhailo Mudryk, João Félix and Benoît Badiashile to comply with UEFA rules.
Loftus-Cheek has been a long-term target for Newcastle by head of recruitment Steve Nickson, who is also interested by Scott McTominay, with the Scotland international reportedly concerned by his lack of game time at Manchester United.
McTominay is also said to be open to a move to St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe’s main priority for the winter transfer window is to sign another central midfielder, but he is also assessing the availability of wingers and full backs.
Multiple reports have said that the Magpies will only try sign players on their shortlists and that any money spent in January will be taken off the money available to Howe this summer. Newcastle have spent £205m in the two windows under their Saudi ownership.
Rúben Neves of Wolves is also another candidate for Newcastle however they are not willing to sell this month and any future attempt will take a sizeable chunk out of the budget for other players.
