QUIZ: Can you name Arsene Wenger’s first Arsenal matchday squad?

The starting XI should be easy. The subs, not so much

Kevin Beirne

It’s been two decades since Arsene Wenger first arrived in North London.

Having arrived a relative unknown from the Japanese League, Wenger has gone on to establish himself as the longest-serving manager in the Premier League.

A lot has changed in that time, and Wenger can take a lot of credit for that. But when he took over the Gunners in 1996, he was inheriting a squad largely put together by George Graham and, to a lesser extent, Bruce Rioch.

Although he was unveiled on September 22nd, Wenger only officially took over as Arsenal boss on October 1st so his first game in charge was a 2-0 victory at Ewood Park over a Blackburn side who had claimed the Premier League title two seasons previously.

We review a crazy All-Ireland final and chat to Lee Keegan about his special relationship with Diarmuid Connolly. Listen below or subscribe here on iTunes.

Can you remember who lined out for Arsenal that day? Let’s see.
