Mohamed Salah has been named African Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, beating Liverpool teammate Sadio Mané, who was also nominated for the award.

He was also named in the African team of the year, alongside Mané and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a terrifyingly quick and clinical front three.

Other contenders for the individual player award included Juventus centre-back Mehdi Benatia, who captained Morocco at the 2018 World Cup and won Serie A last season; Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who shone for Napoli in their best season since the Maradona days; Atlético Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey; and the aforementioned Sadio Mané.

After receiving the award, Salah indulged in some excellent dad dancing on stage, surrounded by actual dancers who, to be honest, put him to shame. Still, he’s the one holding the golden trophy.
