The pair are reunited
Alisson’s move to Liverpool reunited him with Mohamed Salah, who left Roma for Liverpool this time last summer. The Egyptian winger hit the ground running as he had his most prolific season of his career under Jurgen Klopp, and Liverpool fans will be hoping that Alisson can start with similarly good form. Although, obviously, keeping the goals out rather than banging them in.
The pair are very good friends, and in an interview with Liverpool’s website, Alisson revealed what Salah said to him in a text message yesterday while the final details of the transfer was being ironed out.
We didn’t have that much contact after he left Roma. We met again in the game when we were up against each other [in the Champions League in April],” Alisson told Liverpoolfc.com.
“Yesterday, he sent me a message saying: ‘Hey, what are you waiting for?’ As the negotiations were at an advanced stage, I replied to him straight away saying: ‘Calm down, I’m on my way!’
“I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play alongside him again. As well as being a great player, he is a huge character and a great person – which is the most important thing.
“To be with these great people and players day to day is fantastic for me.”
He sounds excited to be joining the Reds, who have enjoyed a fantastic summer of transfers. Alisson joins Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri on the list of players to have joined Liverpool this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to mount a genuine title challenge next season.
Keita and Fabinho made their first appearances in the red shirt tonight in a win over Blackburn at Ewood Park – a game in which Lazar Marković scored a goal. Yes, really, that Lazar Marković actually scored.
